Abundance

Where've you been?  I thought you'd like to see some of what has been up in our world.

After the death of Eleanor (who we love dearly), JULIA NEEDED another buddy...we cried, and eventually gave in to this beautiful loving girl.  As the Beatles, theme continues, her name is JoJo.  She has some anxiety and fits right in with our family.

I officiated a wonderful friend's wedding in April of 2016.  It was absolutely beautiful and I am so grateful for their trust.  The space and the service fit Joe and Missy so well.  They even had tacos!!!

A poem of daily remembrance---not all have beans to eat, fall or spring.
Beans Green and Yellow
By Mary Oliver
In fall
it is mushrooms
gathered in dampness
under the pines;
in spring
I have known the taste of the lamb
full of milk
and spring grass;
today
it is beans green and yellow
and lettuce and basil
from my friend’s garden -
how calmly,
as though it were an ordinary thing,
we eat the blessed earth.

 So, my divinity school friend, Nikki and I wrote a grant and bought a van.  It is now the forth month of operation for New Communion: Mobile Market and Food Pantry. We feed about 50-100 families a week in the Forsyth County area.

North Carolina has one the highest percentages in the United States of children under 18 years of age who are food insecure on a regular basis:  in N.C. almost 1 in 4. (24.6%)

Winston Salem can boast of 21 food deserts. 21!!! I mean how can we not do something NOW?

We also do some secular outreach and fundraising.  See the tattoo?  It's a beautiful chalice signifying the Eucharist or Communion.  The new marketing component is #hungersucks.   Feel free to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and we'd love it if you used #hungersucks to get the message out.  Shout out to George at Camel City!

This is Doug! He is our first employee and can articulate the story better than we can! We are at LaDeara Crest, one of our partnering communities.

I was invited to be part of the LeadNow Cohort at Wildgoose! The collective and individual stories and collaborations were beyond formational.  I feel so humbled sitting next to these wonderful people.

Let me tell you this last picture...these are friends, real friends that hold each other up.  The girls basically ran the pantry all summer.  We serve 50-100 families in Forsyth County each week.  They made it happen.  Everyone else is affiliated with Wake Forest University School of Divinity and those folks showed up and watched me weep.  This work is a beautiful thing.  We can change this world one meal at the time.
